Synopsis
Moriarty the Patriot is a 2020 crime mystery anime, and this first part has 11 episodes. It was made by Production I.G and is based on the manga written by Ryosuke Takeuchi and drawn by Hikaru Miyoshi. It is inspired by the Sherlock Holmes stories by Arthur Conan Doyle. It is set in Britain in the late 1800s, when the country is ruled by a strict class system.
In this world, the rich nobles have all the power. Many of them treat poor people as if they are worth nothing. The poor suffer, and the law does little to help them.
William James Moriarty is a brilliant young man who grew up as a poor orphan. Together with his younger brother, Louis, he was adopted into the noble Moriarty family. Albert, the family's oldest son, shares William's anger at the unfair system.
Now William works as a math professor. In secret, he is a consulting criminal. He helps people who have been hurt by cruel nobles, and he plans clever crimes to punish those nobles. His goal is much bigger than revenge. He wants to change the whole of Britain and destroy the class system.
Early episodes show William and his brothers taking on corrupt nobles one case at a time. Later, a sharp and unusual detective named Sherlock Holmes begins to notice these crimes. The show is a dark story about justice, crime and who has the right to decide what is fair.
