Synopsis
Plastic Memories is a 2015 science fiction romance drama anime with 13 episodes. It is an original story made by the studio Doga Kobo and written by Naotaka Hayashi. It is set in a city of the near future.
In this world, a company called SAI Corporation makes androids called Giftias. They look and act just like humans, with real feelings and memories. Many people live with Giftias as friends or family. But every Giftia has a limited lifespan of about nine years. When their time is up, their memories and personality start to break down, and they can become dangerous.
Tsukasa Mizugaki is 18 years old. He failed his university exams, but his father's connections get him a job at SAI Corporation. He is put in Terminal Service One, a small team whose job is to find Giftias near the end of their lives and take them back from their owners. This is often very painful for the families.
Each worker is paired with a Giftia partner. Tsukasa's partner is Isla, a quiet Giftia with long silver hair. She is shy and clumsy, and she does not seem very good at the job. The other team members act strangely around her.
As Tsukasa and Isla work together, he starts to fall in love with her. But Isla has a secret of her own, and it makes their time together very important. The series follows the two of them through their work and their feelings for each other.
