Synopsis
Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day is a 2011 drama anime with 11 episodes. It is an original story made by A-1 Pictures and written by Mari Okada. It is set in the small city of Chichibu in Saitama, Japan.
When they were children, six friends formed a group called the Super Peace Busters. They played together every day and had a secret base in the woods. Then one of them, a cheerful girl named Meiko Honma, known as Menma, died in an accident. After that, the group drifted apart.
Years later, the friends are in high school, and they rarely speak to each other. Jinta Yadomi, who was once the leader of the group, has stopped going to school. He spends his days at home playing video games.
One summer day, Menma appears in front of Jinta. She looks older, as if she grew up with them, but nobody else can see her. She says she has a wish that she wants granted, but she cannot remember what it is. She believes she cannot move on until it comes true.
At first, Jinta thinks he is just stressed. But Menma will not leave him alone. To help her, he must reach out to his old friends Anaru, Yukiatsu, Tsuruko and Poppo. Each of them still carries feelings of guilt and sadness from the day Menma died. The series follows the group as they try to find Menma's wish and face the past they have been avoiding.
