Synopsis
Orange is a 2016 romantic drama anime with 13 episodes. It was made by Telecom Animation Film and is based on the manga by Ichigo Takano. It is set in Matsumoto, a city in the mountains of Nagano, Japan. The show deals with heavy themes, including grief and suicide.
Naho Takamiya is a shy and kind second year high school student. On the first day of the new school year, she finds a strange letter addressed to her. The letter says it is from herself, ten years in the future. It knows things about her life that nobody else could know.
In the letter, the older Naho explains that she has many regrets. She asks her younger self to make different choices. Most of all, she asks her to watch over a new transfer student named Kakeru Naruse. In the future, Kakeru is no longer with them, and the older Naho and her friends still wish they could have saved him.
That same day, Kakeru joins Naho's class. He is friendly, but he also seems to carry a lot of pain. Naho and her close friends, Suwa, Takako, Azu and Hagita, quickly welcome him into their group.
Naho starts to follow the advice in the letters, even when it is hard for her. Small choices, like sharing a lunch or speaking up, begin to change things. The series follows Naho and her friends as they try to change the future and help Kakeru feel that he is not alone.
