The Apothecary Diaries Season 2

The Apothecary Diaries Season 2 is the 2025 second season of the historical mystery drama anime. It has 24 episodes and was made by TOHO animation STUDIO and OLM, based on the light novels by Natsu Hyuuga. It picks up after the end of the first season.

The story is set in the imperial palace of a fantasy country that looks like ancient China. Maomao is a young woman who grew up in the city's red-light district, where she learned to make medicine. She knows a lot about herbs and poisons. After she was taken to the palace, her skills caught the eye of Jinshi, a handsome and powerful official. Now she often helps him solve mysteries inside the palace.

At the start of this season, Maomao works in the palace clinic and helps protect Consort Gyokuyou, who is pregnant with the emperor's child. The palace is full of people who might want to harm a future heir, so Maomao must be careful about everything Gyokuyou eats, drinks and smells.

Soon, a diplomatic group and a trading caravan arrive at the palace with exotic goods. Maomao notices that some popular new perfumes could be dangerous. She also meets Shisui, a cheerful and curious young servant girl who loves insects.

Jinshi keeps bringing Maomao new problems, from poisonous mushrooms to strange cases from the past. The season follows Maomao as she uses her medical knowledge to solve new mysteries, while her bond with Jinshi slowly grows.
