Synopsis
Weathering With You is a 2019 anime fantasy romance film written and directed by Makoto Shinkai and made by CoMix Wave Films. It runs for about 112 minutes and is an original story. It is set in Tokyo during a summer when it almost never stops raining.
Hodaka Morishima is a 16 year old boy who runs away from his home on a small island. He takes a ferry to Tokyo to start a new life. On the way, a storm almost throws him into the sea, but a man named Keisuke Suga saves him.
In Tokyo, Hodaka has no money and nowhere to stay. The city is cold and wet, and it is hard for a teenager with no ID to find work. In the end, he calls Suga and gets a job at his tiny company. They write articles for a magazine about urban legends and strange events.
Hodaka soon meets Hina Amano, a girl who lives alone with her little brother. She has a special power. When she prays, the rain stops, and the sun shines on the spot around her for a while. People call a girl like this a "sunshine girl".
Hodaka has an idea. In a city where the sun never comes out, many people would pay for a sunny day. He and Hina start a small business, making the sky clear for weddings, festivals and other events. The film follows Hodaka and Hina as they grow closer and learn more about Hina's gift.
