Synopsis
Monogatari Series Second Season is a 2013 supernatural anime with 26 episodes. It was made by the studio Shaft and is based on the light novels by NisiOisiN. It continues the Monogatari series after Nisemonogatari. It has long, clever conversations, unusual visuals and some suggestive scenes, so it is best for older viewers.
The series is set in a small town in Japan. Koyomi Araragi is a high school boy who was once briefly a vampire. Over time, he has helped several girls who were troubled by oddities, which are strange spirits and curses. This season tells a set of separate stories, and each one is seen through the eyes of a different character.
The first story is told by Tsubasa Hanekawa, Koyomi's classmate and a very smart and kind girl. On the first day of the new school term, Koyomi is nowhere to be found. On her way to school, Tsubasa sees a huge tiger in the street. Soon after, something happens to her house, and she has nowhere to live.
Tsubasa stays with friends while she tries to understand what the tiger is and why it appeared. She also starts to face feelings she has hidden for a long time.
Later stories in the season focus on other characters from the series, such as Mayoi, Nadeko, Shinobu and Hitagi. The show mixes mystery, comedy and drama about the hidden sides of people.
