Synopsis
Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl is a 2019 anime film made by CloverWorks and directed by Soichi Masui. It runs for about 89 minutes and is based on the light novels by Hajime Kamoshida. It is a sequel to the TV series Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai. It is set in the seaside city of Fujisawa.

Sakuta Azusagawa is a second year high school student. He has helped several girls who suffered from Adolescence Syndrome, a strange condition that causes supernatural things to happen to teenagers. Now he is dating Mai Sakurajima, a famous actress. The two are happy, and life seems calm at last.

Then Sakuta sees Shoko Makinohara again. Years ago, when he was going through a very hard time, an older girl named Shoko helped him. She was his first love. Now two different Shokos appear in his life. One is a young adult. The other is a kind middle school girl who is very sick and needs a heart transplant to live.

The adult Shoko tells Sakuta that she has come from the future. She seems to know things that nobody else could know, including things about Sakuta himself. He is not sure what to believe.

Sakuta wants to help both Shokos, but he also wants to protect Mai and the life they have built. The film follows Sakuta as he faces a very hard choice about the future.
