Synopsis
Soul Eater is a 2008 action comedy anime with supernatural elements. It has 51 episodes and was made by the studio Bones. It is based on the manga by Atsushi Ohkubo. The story is set in Death City, a spooky town in the Nevada desert.
Death City is home to the Death Weapon Meister Academy, a school run by the Grim Reaper himself, called Lord Death. The students come in pairs. One student is a meister, a fighter. The other is a weapon, a person who can turn into a weapon like a scythe, a sword or a gun.
Together, each pair hunts evil humans who have become monsters by eating innocent souls. The goal of each pair is to collect 99 of these evil souls, plus the soul of a witch. If they succeed, the weapon becomes a Death Scythe, a weapon strong enough to be used by Lord Death.
Maka Albarn is a serious and hard working meister. Her partner is Soul Eater Evans, a boy who turns into a scythe and tries hard to act cool. The first episodes also introduce two other pairs. Black Star is a loud ninja with a partner named Tsubaki. Death the Kid is Lord Death's son, who is obsessed with things being perfectly balanced, and he works with the Thompson sisters, who turn into pistols.
The series follows these students as they train, go on missions and face a group of witches who threaten the balance of the world.
