The Irregular at Magic High School

The Irregular at Magic High School is a 2014 science fiction action anime, and this first season has 26 episodes. It was made by the studio Madhouse and is based on the light novels by Tsutomu Sato. It is set in Japan in the year 2095, when magic has become a science.

In this future, people use magic with the help of special devices. Magicians are very important to every country, both for science and for war. The best young magicians study at special high schools.

Tatsuya Shiba and his younger sister Miyuki start their first year at First High School, one of the top magic schools in Japan. The school splits students into two groups based on their test scores. Course 1 students, called Blooms, get the best teachers and the most respect. Course 2 students, called Weeds, are seen as backups and are often looked down on.

Miyuki is the top new student and a Bloom. She is very skilled, and she is also very devoted to her brother. Tatsuya is a Weed, because his practical magic test scores were low. But Tatsuya is far from weak. He knows more about magic theory than almost anyone. He is also a genius engineer and an expert fighter, and he may have powers that nobody at school understands.

Soon Tatsuya gets involved with the student council and the school's discipline committee. The series follows Tatsuya and Miyuki as they deal with school rivalries and dangerous groups that threaten the school.
